Steady Lead

Leadership Development That Goes Beyond the Training Room

Steady Lead helps supervisors, emerging leaders, and experienced leaders develop the judgment, self-awareness, relationships, and practical skills required to lead people well.

Leadership Is More Than Knowing What a Manager Is Supposed to Do

A promotion changes a title immediately. Leadership develops more slowly.

New and experienced leaders alike can find themselves carrying authority without feeling comfortable using it, holding work they should delegate, avoiding difficult conversations, struggling to build consensus, or reacting to the urgent while losing sight of what matters most.

Steady Lead creates a place to work on those challenges directly. The program combines established leadership thinking with an original six-pillar framework shaped for leaders in mission-driven and direct-care organizations.

The Steady Lead Six Pillars

1

Leading Yourself

Self-awareness, emotional regulation, priorities, effectiveness, and understanding the patterns you bring into leadership.

2

Leading Individuals

One-to-one relationships, communication, delegation, accountability, development, and understanding the person in front of you.

3

Leading Teams

Trust, conflict, collaboration, consensus, shared expectations, and creating a team that can work well together.

4

Leading Organizations

Seeing beyond the immediate team, understanding systems, culture, alignment, and how leadership choices ripple through an organization.

5

Influence

Leading beyond formal authority through credibility, communication, judgment, relationships, and the ability to move people toward meaningful action.

6

Character

The values, integrity, consistency, and identity beneath the techniques — who you are when leadership becomes difficult.

The framework draws on influential leadership thinkers including Peter Drucker, Stephen Covey, Daniel Goleman, Patrick Lencioni, Jim Collins, and others — translating decades of leadership thinking into a practical framework for the field.

How Steady Lead Is Taught

This is not a day of leadership slides.

01Leaders work with real situations rather than hypothetical management problems.
02Participants learn from one another in real time, not only from the facilitator.
03Discussion, reflection, exercises, and practice turn concepts into decisions and behaviors.
04The room becomes a place where leaders can examine what they actually do — not merely describe what good leadership should look like.
05Participants leave with a curriculum they can continue using after the program.

Discuss Leadership Development

From a Leader Who Experienced It

“David’s view of leadership through the six pillars feels like I just read ten textbooks on leadership. The interactive style, and playing off other leaders in an authentic environment, has improved my ability to affect my team.”

Funding and Co-Sponsorship

For organizations that want to share a training across agencies, DFT and Steady Lead programs can be structured for co-sponsorship. Organizations with similar missions and challenges can learn together while dividing the cost in a practical way.

Where appropriate, support can also be provided around the cost breakdowns and program documentation needed when an organization is exploring grant funding.
